About Living In Santee

Santee, a suburb of San Diego, is located only about 20 miles from the ocean and downtown San Diego.  Residents can easily access the beaches thanks to State Route 52, which connects them straight into downtown La Jolla. The San Diego River runs through the city, offering more than 1,000 acres of trails, parks, the Santee Lakes and stunning natural views.  Homes in Santee have a great location near the city’s recreation, shopping, and dining in addition to top schools.

Real estate in Santee is diverse, offering lots of single-family homes and condos to meet everyone’s needs.  Many homes have gorgeous views of Cowles Mountain, the highest point in San Diego.  Santee is a growing suburban community, and many upscale homes with luxury amenities have recently been added.  Santee is a safe place to live, and in fact, it had one of the lowest crime rates among cities in San Diego County in 2010.  Unlike the surrounding urban areas, Santee still has lots of vacant land available for development, just waiting for future residents to design their dream home.  Homes in Santee are conveniently located near the eastern end of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Green Line trolley route.  Transportation to downtown San Diego and beyond is hassle-free.

Santee is a center for sports and culture, and its many recreational amenities reflect this.  The Carlton Oaks Golf Course, built in 1958, is a popular spot to spend a day practicing your swing.  The course was designed by a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Pete Dye.  A new sports facility, Sportsplex USA Santee, opened in 2010 and offers space for soccer, softball, and baseball.  Located inside of Town Center Community Park, Sportsplex also has plenty of seats for fans, convenient parking, and a restaurant with a sports theme.  Every summer, the city organizes a free concert series to entertain music lovers.  A fun destination for movies is the Santee Drive-In Theatre, one of the last remaining venues of its kind in the country.

Outdoor recreation is abundant in Santee.  Many mountain bikers ride here amid the beautiful landscape of Cowles Mountain.  The peak is also popular with hikers.  Santee Lakes Regional Park and Campground has nearly 200 acres for visitors to picnic, fish, and camp in the gorgeous natural setting.

Santee residents have great shopping and dining conveniently located near their homes.  Shops of all kinds are located at Santee Trolley Square.  Visitors can find the latest fashions at familiar retailers like TJ Maxx, Old Navy, and DSW Shoe Warehouse.  After a day of shopping, try one of the many restaurants, such as Daphne’s Greek Cafe or Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing.

Residents of Santee are served by two school districts.  For elementary and middle schools, the Santee School District is in charge.  Here, elementary schools serve grades K-6, while middle schools are for grades 7 and 8.  Grossmont Union High School District operates the two high schools in the area.  For higher education, Grossmont College in nearby El Cajon provides community college services.  The campuses of San Diego State University and the University of San Diego are both nearby.
